Taking inspiration from Frigyes Karinthy’s model of Six Degrees of Separation, W21 challenges the never-evolving nature of the archive, and its fixed discriminating taxonomy. The production and circulation of an annual questionnaire, together with an open call for contributions, is at the core of our practice and research. Every year we choose a theme to share with our audience. The selected theme for 2020/2021 is Disembodiment. The collected answers (in the forms of visual, written and sounds entries) are processed by a software and reimagined as a navigable matrix. This ‘active data’ will become the primary material for transmedia storytelling across multiple platforms, in the form of exhibitions, essays, and panel discussions.
